Het doel van het Stichting Frederik Mullerfonds is om subsidie te verlenen voor de voorbereiding, honoraria, drukken, uitgeven en exploiteren van publicaties op het gebied van bibliografische en boekwetenschappelijke werken, op voorwaarde dat deze publicaties niet uitsluitend commercieel bedoeld zijn. Studies over schilderijen en miniaturen vallen buiten het werkgebied van de stichting. Het Mullerfonds financiert dus voornamelijk publicaties die zich richten op onderzoek en kennisontwikkeling op het gebied van boeken en bibliografie.
