Dit oostelijke deel heeft al meer dan dertig jaar te lijden onder de verschrikkingen van de oorlog.

Action Le Vert

Action Le Vert is an NGO created since 1998 to fight against deforestation, land and forest degradation, to promote human rights and education for all. We carry out projects for environmental protection, sustainable agriculture and education.

This date is set as the start of the project implementation given that the stakeholders would already be identified.

This end date is set to measure the impact of the project in relation to the expected objectives and contribute to the reduction of community violence in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Support for the Socio-Professional and Economic Reintegration of Young Victims of Armed Conflicts in South Kivu

Wij komen tussen in het herstel van landbouw-, berg- en bosbouwecosystemen en in de bevordering van de mensenrechten, onderwijs voor kinderen en jongeren die het slachtoffer zijn van de verschrikkingen van oorlog en de gevolgen van klimaatverandering ten gunste van inheemse volkeren en lokale gemeenschappen. Op het gebied van onderwijs bieden we academische inhaallessen voor kinderen, beroepsopleidingen in beroepen voor jongeren en vrouwen voor empowerment.

Onze aandacht gaat veel meer uit naar kinderen, jongeren en vrouwen die het slachtoffer zijn van oorlogsgeweld. We houden ook rekening met de mannen en vrouwen van inheemse volkeren en lokale gemeenschappen die het slachtoffer zijn van de gevolgen van de klimaatverandering, zonder mensen met een handicap te vergeten.
Het leren van beroepen is een sleutel die de deur opent naar empowerment, ondernemerschap en de strijd tegen armoede.

Tensions between different armed groups are recurrent and the proliferation of armed groups is high in South Kivu Province. The recruitment and use of women and children, which are widespread, are inherently destructive phenomena with negative consequences for children and women. In view of the interconnected challenges of child recruitment and community violence, there is a need to address at the same time the factors favoring the recruitment of children and the use of women, who constitute a cheaper, flexible and easily manipulated workforce as combatants and sex slaves. Among the factors underlying these phenomena, we cite among others poverty, revenge, protection of the family and the community, lack of appropriate occupation, non-schooling and dropping out of school, dependency, insufficient information, ignorance and social discrimination to name a few. This is why the province of South Kivu was chosen more precisely in the territories of Kalehe, Kabare, Fizi, Uvira, Mwenga and Shabunda, territories which are full of foreign and national armed groups in search of minerals;

For children and women who are victims of armed and intercommunity conflicts, their successful community reintegration begins early in the Recovery, Education and Trades Learning Centers (CREAM), where they benefit from adequate psychosocial support and preparation for professional and economic reintegration on a community basis. Since 2010, Action Le Vert has benefited from support that has enabled it to build Centers to support young people and women in difficult situations. Unfortunately, it is experiencing difficulties, particularly in terms of equipment and rehabilitation. Beyond these difficulties, other challenges remain, such as raising awareness against recruitment by armed groups, preparation for professional or economic reintegration in a community environment particularly affected by poverty. With the implementation of this project, there will be a reduction (or even elimination) of community and gender-based violence through community awareness raising, communication with armed groups and support for the socio-economic and professional reintegration of young people who have left armed forces and groups (ESFGA) and other vulnerable categories affected by armed conflicts in South Kivu. A zone without recruitment and use of children will be created, protecting against community violence and violations of their rights.

Children and women are among the main victims of the conflicts maintained by armed groups in South Kivu: they are recruited and used for economic exploitation, as sexual slaves and women are frequently raped and abused by members of these armed groups. This lack of protection prevents them from carrying out their rural activities, markets, drawing water and other household chores of girls and women in rural areas (searching for straw, wood, etc.). Children are deprived of schooling. With the implementation of this Project, security and protection needs will be taken into account. They will participate directly through their delegates in the activities to provide their opinions during the Project's awareness-raising sessions. As direct beneficiaries, they will benefit from the socio-economic support of the Project and contribute to the recovery of the socio-economic fabric of their families and communities, as well as the consolidation of peace, while educating their children, who will also be protected against family separation and recruitment by armed groups.
